Gearing up for the summer!

I cycled the hell out of the hills above Maupin and the Deschutes River at "glow time" back in April, and this was taken at the summit after 40 minutes straight up some crazy switchbacks with pretty nasty headwind. Mt. Hood behind me, open road ahead, absolutely stunning payoff right here! © Anni Tracy, Maupin, 2012

Support veterans awareness with the Long Road Home Project on June 13!

To anyone visiting my photo blog, I'd like to invite you to a celebration on Wednesday, June 13. My younger sister, Capt. Marty Tracy, just returned from her 6-month tour in Jalalabad, Afghanistan as a logistical officer with the US Air Force. The family so incredibly excited to have her home safe, and as she settles back into daily life she is simultaneously gearing up (no pun intended) to cycle cross-country with the Long Road Home Project in support of veteran awareness. She and four other veterans will bike 3,800 miles in three months, from Aberdeen to Washington D.C., July to October, connecting with vets across the country and sharing their own experiences in coping with PTSD. These five brave souls will ask the question along the way, What can we do as a nation to better serve our veterans as they come home?

I'd like to help Marty on this amazing journey by hosting a shindig on Wednesday, June 13, while she's visiting Portland. If you are free, come meet my sister! Get excited about biking! Support veterans awareness! Get inspired and help make this world a better place! (And of course, hungry and thirsty folks will enjoy Circa's $10 burger/bourbon/beer special all evening long.) Proceeds from the drink special of the evening will support the Long Road Home Project, plus we are putting together a raffle with prizes from breweries/bike shops around town AND trying to get veterans groups (and LGBT vet groups, for Pride next week!) from the Portland area to come by. Exciting stuff! Friends and family are absolutely invited, and please spread the word to any local veterans and soldiers. This celebration is for them, too!

When: Wednesday, June 13... just next week!
6:30-10 p.m. (Raffle drawing tentatively at 9 p.m.)

Where: ‘The Speakeasy’ at Circa 33
3348 SE Belmont St. (Ask the hostess about the 'secret code' into the Speakeasy.)

See you next week, and thanks in advance for your support!
