Hey folks! I'm continuing to play catch-up with the 30+ rolls of film I shot over the past six months. Here are a few images made during the springtime – obviously not the most pleasant time of year to be in Oregon, but I made the most of it. A little rain never hurt anything (much). Enjoy!

Good news!

I am happy to announce the return of my courageous, honorable, awe-inspiring sister, Captain Tracy, to the left coast July 31-Aug. 4. She couldn't get enough of us the first time around, so Marty is back for another visit before her orders for deployment begin the following week. Let's all welcome her back and make sure to show her a grand ole' time, Portland-style!

This photo was made with Marty over Easter weekend, exploring the coast and biking around Fort Stevens State Park between the shipwreck and the batteries.

Kell's Irish boxing match

I had a blast shooting an amateur boxing match between USA and Ireland during the March St Patrick's Day festivities at Kell's Irish in downtown Portland. Six boxers on each team, three 2-minute rounds per bout, a bikini-clad lady in too-high heels walking the ring between rounds, with rowdy Portlanders dressed in green all around, double-fisting Guinness and Jameson, ready to throw punches themselves. I had no idea the rules of amateur boxing or how the judges actually scored the match, and was disappointed that each bout ended without a knock-out or obvious winner. The US team won, but I have NO idea how: I even googled "scoring" after the event, and the ten billion rules just made my brain bleed. Nonetheless, it was an evening of eye candy for the photographer!

Kearny Street, towards Coit Tower

This photo was made during my lovely March visit to San Francisco: I woke up from my dim sum food coma at the North Beach hostel and groggily admired the views from my third-story window looking up Kearny Street towards Coit Tower. I absolutely love this part of town: City Lights Books, Chinatown, Little Italy and the Embarcadero were a hop, skip and a jump away, and all around me were strip clubs, buskers and panhandlers – that part, at least, felt just like Portland.

The shipwreck on Easter weekend

I am finally working photos from my sister's trip to Oregon over Easter weekend! We did some biking in Fort Stevens State Park – where it absolutely downpoured on us until the very second we finished the ride – then we drove across the Hwy 101 Bridge into Washington, took jumping photos on top of the Column, and finished the day in downtown Astoria with a fancy Easter seafood dinner of steamers, chowder and halibut... Marie B. Tracy should visit all the time!

Un-welcoming observation tower in the Redwoods

This photo was taken in April exploring Redwood National Park, east of Orick, Calif. While driving inland along the Bald Hill Road ridge line near Hooker Mountain, I stopped to photograph a herd of 100+ elk crossing the road – every one of them eyeing me suspiciously, ready to bolt – or charge! A few miles up the road I hiked to a closed-for-the-season park observation tower, where the views were absolutely unbelievable. Unfortunately, I met some resistance in the form of a padlock ~50 ft. up when trying to climb the tower.

Seward Highway in Alaska, circa 2005, just past the Girdwood ski area: the most unbelievably breathtaking stretch of highway I've ever had the pleasure of driving in my life. This was taken with a disposable camera, in the rain, then "accidentally" baked in the Alaska sunlight.

April 21, late posting

This photo was taken during one of Portland's only snowy days this year! Geese like to hang out next to Hwy 224 in Milwaukie, Ore., stopping traffic as they cross the on-ramp in single file. Honking at them doesn't really work – they simply honk right back to you. (Occasionally traffic stops them though, and you'll find a sad flurry of feathers drifting along the highway.)

I had a lovely trip to Seattle a couple weeks ago to do PA work for Comcast, then spent the day walking around downtown exploring and photographing near the library and Pikes Place.

I suppose Sunday is as good a day as any to do window washing... lucky me!

Thank you, rainy Portland fall, for slowing me down enough to *finally* get some of my photos worked on from spring and summer's mini-trips. This was taken last spring while exploring downtown Seattle near Safeco Field and the piers, ending our wonderful day on Bainbridge Island with family friends. Good times. Miss you, Seattle!

Explored Highway 97 south of Bend last weekend, and stumbled upon this incredibly photogenic lumberyard near Gilchrist, OR – while on the hunt for our buddy, Jameson – en route to Klamath Falls and Crater Lake. Good tunes, great friend, beautiful scenery, lot of laughs!

I stepped outside on Sunday to the sun shining bright *while* it was dumping rain. Not the best shooting conditions (ie: super contrasty + the fear of killing camera), but I couldn't resist the gorgeous fall colors in industrial Southeast Portland. What a magical time of year!

For two weekends in October I will be opening my studio to the public for Portland Open Studios, an annual self-directed tour of 100 artists' studios around the Portland metro area. Along with artists working in all media, I invite you to come behind the scenes to see where, how and why photographs [and paintings, sculpture, weavings, ceramics, etc.] are made in an up close and personal view.

WHEN: October 10, 11 & 17, 18

TIME: 10 am - 5 pm
**Many studios will be open both weekends, including my own

WHERE: 100 studio locations all around Portland!
